Sword Art Online: Code Register was a huge hit, but the simple graphics and limited release gave it a rather short shelf life as a mainstream game.
Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag built on the idea by releasing a near identical game with upgraded graphics. It was both a success and a failure. While many people loved the design, there are many underhanded tricks meant to motivate purchases. This includes events that can only be completed by current premium characters and limiting the use of characters in levels to create the need for a larger collection.
Sword Art Online: Integral Factor was a failure. It attempted to take the game one step further by providing a more "open-world" design, but also took the greed a step further by making both weapons and attacks part of the gacha system. Almost no bugs from the beta were resolved before release and it took months for the game to even be considered stable.
Unless Bandai Namco has replaced their entire format and started fresh, trends point to this game having a good chance of catastrophic failure. After all, what is the next step down from constant crashes, server outages, and glitches?
