Girls’ Frontline was released in 2016, and It’s rare to see some gacha game that can keep alive for 6 years and still has a group of loyal fans. You may feel the game has a ton of similarities with Arknight, then I must tell you a secret, the producer of Arknight was the art director of Girls’ Frontline.
Is that still worth playing in 2022? Yeah, I think so. Even though it's been so long, the Girls’ Frontline still has something left to captivate the new users. First, the waifus, a lot of waifus. Personally, making the guns anthropomorphized to pretty girls is the most crucial feature that attracted me and they get inspiration from the appearance characteristics of the real guns and mix these elements into the character design of waifu. For instance, Kar98k, one of my favorite characters, has some significant German patterns in her costume. Developers spend a lot of time studying the backstory of guns and giving the characters a soul. The same element can be seen everywhere in the game.
No like other strategy games, the team member would recover immediately after the battle, the units in Girls’ Frontline would take some time to recuperate. So most of the time, the player needs to build more than one squad, some for collecting resources, some for changing the follow up levell. Differ from other waifu games, low ranked waifu is the materials only used for updating the high ranked unit. Some low-ranked waifus are useful and have high popularity among players in Girls’ Frontline.
I still think Girls’ Frontline is a good game and worth playing in 2022, but the Chibi models are no longer fashionable anymore. But no one can remove the contribution Girls’ Frontline made for waifu games.
