Armed Heist
Armed Heist is a third person shooter in which the main objective is, you guessed it., robbery. The game is reminiscent of Payday and Payday 2 Except for the fact that i actually like this game.
The game starts off rather slow with you excaping a bank ad taking out a few...officials. Fine. Fair enough. however the game does tend to pick up the pace at a fairly reasonable rate. There are a few different elements buillt into any given heist, most of wchich consist of a drill. You drill into ATMs, Armored trucks, or Safes, That part is all well and good but thos are all really just mechanisms in place to initiate timers and give your kiling spree a purpose. As these respective timers count down you then need to protect your drill whilst fending off waves of....officials. Stay alive until your getaway driver gets there and make your way to the truck. Mission Complete. Simple enough right?
But there's actaully just a little bit more to the game than just that. I was pleasantly surprisd to find a few roleplaying elements holstered into this game as well. As you complete missions you gain experience and level up. As you level up you gain mor HP. There's also a PLETHORA of primary weapons, secondary weapons, armors, vests, and masks to obtain, customize, improve, and levelup. as you level up your weapons, you gain experience and level up your person and gain hp. as you level up your gear you gain experience and lev- well you get it.
The customization options are widespread, though they may feel rather Gated on the aesthetic front. character customization options are limited to an array of mask types, however as you progress you can unlock new designs or skins for your various masks, effectively making them new masks altogether. other than that you're wearing a suit (a direct reservoir Dogs pull no doubt) with your selection of vest and thats about it for character customizations. The cool thing is that none of it is permanent though. swapout vests, armor and masks inbetween missions withouit a second glance, though keep in mind that certain vests/armor do give you bonuses to different traits. This is why you will most often catch me with an smg and a pistol, because the slender vest i prefer to wear presents mewith a bonus for them.
But if you really want to customize, then look no further than your arsenal. From different skins, barrels, front rails, makgazines, muzzles, sights, and stocks, its quite easy to make your gun your own. The additions to weaponry are more than just statistical but visual as well, which in my opinion really helps you to feel more connected to your favorite sidearm
One thing that really surprised me about this game was the multiplayer. Not only is it simple in a good way, but its ACTIVE. With very quick matchmaking teaming you up for intense 5-10 minute missions (i didn't play the PvP) its almost as if the action never stops. I didn't play the PvP modes because quite frankly, the makeup and modality of the games primary control systems dont really make for a PvP experience i think i would enjoy. All things being equal i will add ina quick note; on moe than one occasion, i was stuck running athree man heist with only 2 as the third person would disconnect Immediately at the start of the heist. We never failed any of the heists still so that was good, but it is something to note, as it does make the higher level heists exponentially more difficult.
My qualms. My main qualms with the game surround the aesthetics. the menus seem lazy, character models looklike they took the "good enough" approach, and the ammo drops (idky this bugs me so much) are uninspired glowing red brick piles. The movement patterns aren't quite as smooth as one would hope, with an almost late PS1-like quality to them. I will also say that the gunshot and bullet foley is not quite as..well..sound as that what you would experience in some more mainstream games.
Allinall I'm quickly becoming a fan of Armed Heist, the missions are short but rewarding, the game play is fun, and the weapon customization is near limitless. Grab your phone, grab a couple friends, and lets go make some money.
