Let's be realistic for a minute. Foreign games treat every US player like a cash cow. This game released on the Apple Store, which is typically the more expensive platform, for ¥25.00. To join the beta on Android, I was required to pre-purchase the game for $3.99 plus tax. That is ¥426.25 or more than 17 times more expensive. That said, it does seem like a better fit as a paid title than something with ads or excessive in-app purchases.
The graphics have a number of settings, but none of them really seem to alter the quality. This means I am either saving a ton of battery without much loss to visual appearance or not saving any battery at all by setting the graphics lower. Regardless, the game does look good. It feels more like something you would expect to see on the Vita and probably a little too intense for the Switch.
The controls are easy to navigate and offer full customization of the placement and size of buttons. The auto-save feature is a nice touch, but can be a bit confusing after being told you can only save when visiting altars. The game appears to save inventory randomly, but the progress of the story at the altar. This makes it important to find a checkpoint before putting the game down.
While I am not impressed that I paid the full release price of the game to test it and my data will not transfer, I might have purchased the game eventually. It seems like there were plenty of better options, such as a promotional price for testers. After all, testing is a paid position in a lot of studios. Fortunately, they have promised that the final copy will be an update and will not attempt to charge me again.
I was not able to verify if this is an offline title, but it does perform some updating and login during startup that only seems to work on WiFi. This may also be a result of the activation code for beta testing. As an offline title, this would definitely have a brighter future.
