One part tile-slide puzzle, one part match-3 game, Kenshō is a casual puzzler about restoring the balance of nature. There are no move or time limits and no real penalties for failure, making for a relaxing experience. In fact, it's so laid-back that it couldn't keep my interest for very long.
Some levels introduce new mechanics, but the core gameplay of Kenshō is always the same. You'll slide tiles around a small grid to match tiles of the same color. Occasionally, a match will give you a puzzle piece or key that will help you progress to the next level.
In between levels, there's a light narrative about rebuilding the world, but the game isn't really focused on story. Instead, it offers atmosphere. The visuals and soundtrack are both beautiful -- play it with headphones if you can.
Kenshō is a terrific option for anyone looking for a chill puzzle game that still offers some challenge. I prefer match-3 games that are a little more intense, but I appreciate what Kenshō is going for and think it's worth checking out.
