The hype for this game was insane, partially because when it was announced and when it was released were so far apart. With all the previews that made it seem like a hybrid of the original game that allowed more direct control, it is a bit disappointing to play a generic MMORPG with a lot of automated controls.
No matter what developers tell themselves, a switch for auto battle doesn't make the game any less automated. You can require the button is pressed between every battle or add the easiest option to disable it, but it is still there. There is no skill involved when raw luck can just as easily determine the outcome of each fight.
The battles are interesting enough when played manually, but the auto battle is a bit lacking on awareness. It does not seem to target enemies well and leaves you feeling like you are attacking the air at times. It isn't horrible, but hardly looks like the amazing mechanics that have been advertised for months.
The graphics are rather impressive. It seems like Netmarble has taken the time to fully model the characters. It is common for developers to skip over the mouth details and leave a white gap to appear when they talk. This is not true here. The animation is smooth and not quite as rigid as games that attempt to look realistic. The cutscenes flow nicely and are easy enough to skip without missing any important details.
Character selection is a bit deceptive. You have the chance to view all of the available characters, but you only get to start the game with one specific one chosen for you. This does make it a little easier to handle a large story without having to account for a lot of variations, but also makes the initial team feel less like a lucky draw and more like something to be replaced.
It is not quite what I expected based on what was shown in all of the previews, but it is not a bad game. It simply isn't anything all that new, either.
