Unleash Excalibur in this beautiful RPG adventure

King Arthur: Legends Rise is now available for beta testing, and there was part of me that really thought it would be just another money-grubbing gacha. But, from the opening scene, I was hooked by the impressive graphics and creepy score, which included growls and ominous chants that immediately got me into the Arthurian atmosphere the game was conveying.

It wasn't just the environments that made the game great. The fight animations were pretty cool. Within the opening segments, I had a number of different foes to face, ranging from ordinary soldiers to fire-breathing dragons. King Arthur: Legends Rise follows a familiar theme you'll see in many fantasy-based RPGs, where after I defeated my enemies, I could collect items to build up my characters, but I really liked how weapons and items contained different elements so I could make each character unique and customize them to fit the battle.

Hero collection and summoning is a huge aspect of King Arthur: Legends Rise, and though I'm not sure if this title will fall into the PTW trap in later phases of the game, having characters like Arthur as soon as I began playing was enough to keep me invested in the gameplay and at no point did I feel overwhelmed by the enemy combatants.

Additionally, being able to travel around and accept quests to rebuild the kingdom of Camelot got me into the narrative while giving more meaning to the battles. I had a great time playing this one, and as the game progresses, I'm excited to see the final product.

I wasn't able to test the cross-play feature between Android and PC, but being able to save and then pick up, whether at home or on the road, is something I'm looking forward to. It might be too early to call it, but King Arthur: Legends Rise had everything you'd expect from a game of this type. It manages to recreate a fantastic, mystical world on a mobile device, and I'm looking forward to the final product. Give this one a download and see it yourself!
