Mimikyu is a cautious and lonely Pokémon that uses the tattered cloth to hide its terrifying appearance and approach humans and other Pokémon. In an attempt to not scare others, it intentionally wears the tattered cloth that resembles Pikachu, but it ends up becoming even more eerie.

If someone tries to see what's inside its cloth, it fiercely resists with disgust. In the Alola region, it is said that anyone who sees Mimikyu's true form inside the cloth will be plagued by a strange illness, so it is absolutely forbidden to see its true form.

The reason Mimikyu makes itself look similar to Pikachu is because about 20 years ago, when Pikachu merchandise was popular, the lonely Mimikyu believed that by becoming like Pikachu, it could peacefully coexist with humans. Mimikyu holds a deep grudge against Pikachu. In the Sun and Moon series, whenever Team Rocket and Ash engage in battle, Mimikyu always targets Pikachu.

Meowth advise Mimikyu to give up it's hatred to Pikachu.
