📖 Storyline: The evil genius owner of the Chum Bucket, has built a new machine called the Duplicatotron 3000 to produce an army of robots, which he intends to control to steal the secret Krabby Patty formula. After creating them, he realizes that the Duplicatotron's switch was accidentally set to "Do Not Obey". This leads to the robots taking control of Plankton's Chum Bucket and wreaking havoc across Bikini Bottom. Meanwhile, SpongeBob and Patrick are playing with robots and toy horses. SpongeBob and Patrick are bored with toys and wish they could play with real robots. Patrick uses his "magic wishing shell", believing that he will make their wish come true the following morning. SpongeBob wakes up to find his house has been trashed by real robots. He receives a fax from Mr. Krabs, stating that he will give SpongeBob a golden spatula for every certain amount of shiny objects he collects for him. Shiny objects must be collected to open or activate various tolls throughout the game. Outside, SpongeBob finds a disappointed Plankton, who lies and claims that the robots suddenly appeared and chased him away. Plankton convinces SpongeBob to help him get back into the Chum Bucket by embarking on a dangerous quest to find golden spatulas and get rid of the robots, with the secret intention of regaining control of them once they return inside.
🎮 Gameplay: Honestly, who would have ever imagined that sooner or later a remake of a SpongeBob title created seventeen years ago on PlayStation 2 would arrive on Android? To think that even today it is remembered with great love because in fact it was, and still is, a pleasant platformer, made by those who know SpongeBob, namely Heavy Iron Studios. I immediately found myself in front of a classic platformer based on collectibles, that is, the collection of which allows you to unlock the subsequent areas. Here the access keys are the "golden spatulas" linked to the completion of activities suggested by the characters who populate Bikini Bottom, or simply scattered around the environment, hidden in specific points. The world is made up of areas that can be reached by fast travel, through brown boxes, whenever you want, so you can find items lost along the way! Furthermore, work was carried out on cleaning the camera, which is now less static, but more dynamic than the original. The controls are responsive, on screen, and boast the precision of the touchscreen, especially in double jump operations. In addition to SpongeBob, we will also have the opportunity to take on the role of Patrick and Sandy, each with their own skills: few in reality, but in fact there is a minimum change of scenery between one and the other, especially with Sandy, the only one who can use her lasso to make super leaps from hook to hook. It works wonderfully on Android because it's simple and then it slides off which is a pleasure. The mobile version boasts anti-aliasing and an obsessive fidelity to the cartoon, around which nice little scenes and a good number of levels and secrets have been built, which, with any extras, can slightly exceed ten hours in total. The various environments are very colorful and always different. Here in case of falling into the slime we will resume from the last checkpoint. Although it remains very easy from start to finish, there is no lack of difficulty during the secondary challenges including the minigames, especially the bungee jumping one. In the multiplayer era it allows you to participate in a two-participant horde mode, both online and locally; the "horde" mode does nothing but eliminate waves of enemies one after the other, launched by a new boss, Robo Squidward, while a bird's eye view follows the action, which moves from island to island so as not to dull the rhythm.
🕹️ Controls: It's a little dream come true in an entirely cinematic Mobile Game in 3D like a PS4, just tap on the right side of the smartphone screen to see the details in stark contrast to those titles, made in China, which make massive use of the cartoon cel shading often used by similar products, but here I am merely talking about personal tastes. The settings can be customized as well as the graphic quality depending on whether you have non-top of the range devices. Rehydrated Mobile brings with it some features that have now disappeared such as checkpoint saves for levels and respawn points with an innovative design of the on-screen action icons. 🎨 Graphics: The level design involves every single aspect of the title, just look at the moving elements: grass, waterfalls, etc. to remain stunned in front of the smartphone screen! A dream, not to mention the very pleasant and well-animated main characters, while some levels, especially the dark ones, leave a little to be desired in terms of details. Everything runs at sixty frames per second on the latest generation smartphone (snapdragon 2 Gen 3) with a clear image with zero lag! The choice to dub the game entirely in my native language is also commendable: Italian with all the voices of the cartoon: after all, without Claudio Moneta, SpongeBob isn't really SpongeBob.
