Nintendo has a batch of titles ready to conquer 2024 but, mysteriously, its calendar stops at the end of summer: could 2024 be the year in which we will finally see Switch 2?
Nintendo is preparing for a 2024 full of releases, especially in the first half of the year. Almost the entire cast of the main characters of the Mushroom Kingdom, from Super Mario to Luigi through Princess Peach and Donkey Kong, will make an appearance as protagonist or co-protagonist of some game, regardless of whether it is an absolute novelty, a remake or a remaster. Over the big N, however, the specter of an announcement dominates, the protagonist of endless rumors and highly anticipated by fans: that successor to the Nintendo Switch which would also explain the absence of important releases scheduled for autumn. We will discover what surprises this year has in store in the coming months, but in this special on the most anticipated Nintendo exclusives of 2024 we review the main upcoming games and their confirmed launch windows, with a small parenthesis on possible future announcements.

Another Code: Recollection (January 19)
The first game that Nintendo fans will be able to get their hands on is Another Code: Recollection, a bundle that contains the remakes of Another Code: Two Memories and Another Code: R - Journey to the Edge of Memory. These two adventures tell the story of Ashley, a girl who finds herself having to explore mysterious places in search of answers about the fate of her parents. The style is that of the classic point and click puzzle-based and the first chapter, Two Memories, is considered one of the most influential games released on the Nintendo DS, also thanks to a series of ingenious solutions that exploited the use of the touch screen and of the two console screens. Another Code: R, however, was released in 2009 on Wii, although critics did not appreciate it as much as the original episode. Anyone wanting to get an idea can find a demo on the eShop which gives a preview of the improvements to the puzzles and interface. The return of this "minor" Nintendo saga was one of the surprises of the last Direct and delighted the small but loyal community of fans of this saga.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong (February 16)
Those who lived through the glory days of the Game Boy Advance won't want to miss the remake of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, a classic from the Nintendo world. Like Super Mario RPG and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening before it, this game has been completely rebuilt with 3D graphics, new cinematic sequences and an entirely revised sound system. Mario vs. Donkey Kong mixes the 2D platforming elements typical of the most famous plumber in video games with puzzles in which you have to find a key to open the door that leads to the next level. The objective is to find all the Mini-Marios that Donkey Kong stole from the factory and to defeat this enemy you can even bring a friend with you to play cooperatively, a function not available at the time of the original release of the game.

Princess Peach: Showtime (March 22)
Princess Peach is once again the protagonist of a video game with Princess Peach Showtime, arriving on March 22nd. Convinced by one of her subjects to go to a show, the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom will find herself trapped in the theater where the show was scheduled and will have to save spectators and actors from an evil enemy. To fight her opponents, Peach will be able to rely on the powers of Stella's ribbon, the guardian of the theater. When even these powers are not enough, she can transform into Swordswoman Peach to face the show's villains at sword point, also passing through other settings, such as a museum where the princess becomes Detective Peach to investigate the mysteries of the artefacts on display. Also waiting for fans of the most famous princess in video games will be Peach the pastry chef, Peach the kung fu master and many other transformations.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD (Summer 2024)
Luigi's Mansion 2 will receive a graphical refresh next summer with Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, which will bring back the game originally released in 2013 on Nintendo 3DS with gameplay additions and a new multiplayer mode. Tasked with finding your clumsy brother, you will have to take on the role of the scariest of Nintendo characters to face the ghosts that populate Cupavalle. Armed with your Poltergust 5000, a vacuum cleaner with which to move objects and capture ghosts, you will be able to make your way through the rooms of the large haunted house that you have been asked to investigate, as well as various other environments such as an abandoned watch factory or a mine.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Portal (2024)
Another game that will receive a major remaster next year is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door originally released exclusively for the GameCube in 2004. The game will have a higher resolution, better lighting, updated textures and a reworked audio section to bring back one of the Paper Mario adventures that are closest to fans' hearts. The graphic style and unique animations of the Millennial Portal need no introduction and the return of this episode that marked the childhood of so many lovers of the big N was welcomed with joy. The release date is currently set at a simple 2024.

Switch 2 and Metroid Prime 4?
The rumors about the console that will replace the Nintendo Switch are full of hypotheses and rumors regarding screens, resolutions and features. What can be taken for certain is that Nintendo has been working on the console for some time and perhaps 2024 could be the right year to get it into the hands of fans. The calendar of new releases from the big N, as you have seen, ends with next summer, with nothing special for the hot autumn of gaming. Is next Christmas the best time to release a renewed and more powerful Switch 2? In this case we can only wait and speculate on what may or may not happen. A title that would pair very well with the new hardware, however, would certainly be the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4. After the announcement in 2017 and the restart in 2019, with the consequent entrusting of the work to Retro Studio, there were no other news.
