Okay, Brotato is the most classic rougelike I know, in an ... average way

Whoa, true I know that this is a very unpopular opinion. Because this lengthy review was actually for those who enjoyed Cult of The Lamb, or Dave the Diver, or literally anything that's basically Rougelike+++ (rougelike with background development mechanic to progress you in game)
But, before my probably gaslight-inducing reviews, let's take a moment to enjoy how the game portrays itself on our tiny display. And my point is, It's good and unique! It has certain grossines to otherwise clean art and sharp texture. The color is iconic and a screenshot of this game is guaranteed to have certain character that really points out "Oh, this is Brotato right?"
And indeed while that's all cool and classic looking, I would enjoy just a tad bit for more... Post processing. Maybe a bit of bloom by our shots or shadows behind the characters, or trails of something left behind after killing. I feel like the game is too clean on the first waves making it kinda boring and I wish there was a "Skip Button".
And that's all running fine alright. But my phone has Snapdragon 870 so I don't know if that's a good point yet. And my skill is just so capped at this I can't get Wave 8 on second run. Which is enough for me to make me feel bored. So I never tried to do end-game run with 1000 monsters spawn at a time
And if that's not enough, the gameplay itself is as basic as ... A rougelike gets. You choose slightly specialized character - play waves to upgrade - hoping luck fall just right to give your character a boost it specifically needs - continue doing that until you die. And the replayability is, well it really depends on the player preference isn't it? (Btw sorry if you watched the video and notice the very distorted sounds. I don't know why it happened when recording. I have found not a single game I record that has this issue, so I don't know how to fix this)
I like something with side hustle, maybe a story, a hidden character, a new map, or literally anything else that goes with the progression on our main rougelike route.
Yeah there isn't that here. I don't even know why I have to demolish all that innocent creature that maybe just wanted a little hug (that drains my life in the process). Y'know what I mean.
It's not necessarily negative, no. It's just I'm not the player this game was built for. This is more for those who really enjoy quick enter and action and achieving better and better than what they did before. No need other distraction.
So the features align with the gameplay. It's straightforward. You can choose to obtain items. Choose a level-up upgrade, and choose something to buy to progress. You can combine items or weapons to make it to the next level, or keep those separate because you have empty slots.
You can go wild and I've seen many with enough replay might get extra mighty and have insane damage numbers on them and survive 100 waves of endless. Which is the best and most satisfying part of the entire game. And ultimately what you are aiming for when playing classic rougelike like this.
Conclusion:
Well this game isn't for me. But it might be for you. If you like classic type of Rougelike with minimal interruptions, play this. The Premium version is really good to get new characters quick or just to run from ads. But the free one I tried back then also offers the same thing, just with ads.
