Overview:
With kiting potential, and most of the times the core damage dealer of the team, makes them the most favorite picked class by several players. Let us present to you..... the marksman!
With the marksman's potential to carry a whole team, players often see this role as the "STAR OF THE SHOW". You get the farm, you get the kills, and sometimes in special cases, you even get the buffs.
Now, does this role really deserve the fame and fortune it gets in-game, or is it just overrated? Is this role really the most important one that it's worthy being called "STAR OF THE SHOW"?
Before you pick marksman role, you should know first the things you should do and the things you should avoid.
Let's find out! ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ
WHAT IS YOUR DUTY? (GENERAL)
1. "FARM, FARM, FARM"
When you pick marksman, you should be aware that this role is very item dependent. This means you're helpless during the initial to phase of the game that is why you need a supporter to begin with.
Your priority should be farming minion waves in order to accumulate enough gold for items. So you'll be able to fulfill your duty in later stages of the game. So be sure to last hit as many minions as you can.
2. "Be present on team fights"
Being the core damage dealer of the team, you should be present when there is a team fight for objectives like turret pushing and defending, contesting for Baron, Dragon, or Vision.
3. "Always keep an eye on the map"
This is more like an advice for all roles, but since you're the most high priority class, expect that enemy jungler or midlaner will gank you often.
Make sure to stay alert while farming. Put some wards on the bush. Don't leave all the warding duty to your support. All of the team should make use of the warding totem. It's free!
❖ TIP!
Before approaching a bush, make sure that you do a "bush check" first. If your champion posseses a long ranged ability like Ezreal's mystic shot or Jinx's zap, make sure to aim towards the bush first to check if there's an enemy hero waiting to gank you.
Believe us, we've seen too many players especially marksman, that have met their demise because of failing to do a bush check. They approach the bush assuming it is safe only to find out that a bunch of enemy is waiting there or Blitz Crank's hook. And there you have it, a toasted marksman fed to the enemies.
So make sure to perform a bush check. It works wonders!
WHAT IS YOUR DUTY? (TEAM FIGHT)
1. "DEAL DAMAGE!"
This is a brain dead advice, but we'd like to emphasize that as a marksman, you should be the main champion dishing out damage to the opponent's team. So make sure to show them your might!
2. "You should be kiting!"
Kiting means moving from one place to another or dodging enemy skill shots while attacking. This means moving while attacking, not just staying still like a turret.
As a marksman, keep in mind you'll be the first one to be targeted in a fight so learn to move a lot while attacking.
3. "Target high priority champions"
You should focus on squishy champions like the opposing team's marksman, mage, or assasin. But if your range allows it, try to duel with the enemy marksman and win.
THINGS YOU SHOULD AVOID
1. "THOU SHALL NOT FARM YOUR JUNGLER'S JUNGLE CAMP!"
This is the first commandment of what you should not do as a marksman.
Why?
While it's true that your role requires a lot of farming to gather resources and build items, this doesn't give you a pass to steal your jungler's buff unless they permitted you or asked you personally to take it. Not only the buff, but also the jungle camps.
Because your jungler's only source of gold is the jungle camp from initial to early game. They will earn 20 percent less gold from minion waves.
So this is a mutual respect for both sides. Junglers, don't touch minion waves as they will not benefit much from it, and marksmen, don't lay their hands on the jungle camps because you'll struggle killing it.
While in ML where almost every heroes can take on jungle camps, it's a different story in WildRift. You'll find yourself struggling and going back home just taking one camp because they are built to punish non-jungler champions. You'll end up losing high gold amounts from minion waves if you end up recalling after forcing yourself to clear a jungle camp, and if you didn't recall while on low health, you're exposing yourself to be killed by enemy champions.
❖ TAKE NOTE!

WildRift gives you enough amount of resources you need through minion waves alone. If you end up lacking, maybe you should practice last hitting minions more. Don't be greedy and let your team grow as well. No matter how strong and skilled you are, you cannot win this game alone.
2. "Don't get too confident!"
Many players who use marksmen tend to be too proud of themselves sometimes. We understand that you might have the skill to back up the attitude, but that would only get you as far.
Again, we've seen too many "hot headed players" (mostly Vaynes and Ezreals) who over extends themselves at the very beginning of the game when the supporters are warding.
They almost always end up being hooked by a Blitz Crank, and if they managed to survive, they still dance in front of them instead of going back to safety.
While it's true that you have tons of damage potential as a marksman mid to late game, at the initial phase of the game you're like a baby who needs to be tend to until he can walk. So behave yourself until then.
3. "Don't be too timid!"
This goes hand in hand with the number two. While it's true that you should not be too confident, you should have enough guts to fight when the situation calls for it. You picked a damage dealer therefore, you should deal damage. That's your job.
We've seen many players where a tank or support engages, and the marksman still hesitates at the tower whether or not he should fight. Then after his support gets killed, that's when he'll make up his mind to fight like an avenger seeking to deliver justice for the death of his teammate. What a touching scene (and yes, they end up dying as well).
Kidding aside, if your tank or support engages, you should pull that trigger and enter fight mode.
Not all the times tho! Remember! Learn to assess the situation first. Look at the enemy items and yours, and if it's just almost the same, go ahead and put up a fight. It is the same when you outnumber them. But if the enemy is well fed, just stay on defensive, and be careful trading blows.
Remember, every second counts and expect your tank to die in battle. They are prepared to die the moment they picked a tank role (how brave). However, they wont go down easily, so don't hesitate lending him your fire power.
Your tank can take burst damage from 5 people in a certain period of time. Your job is to reduce that people into smithereens. The more people you kill, the greater the chances of your tanker to live. So basically if you wanna save them, go and fight with them.
4. "Don't go solo!"
We've seen many marksman who's going solo after pushing the opposing team's first turret in the dragon lane. Don't do that!
As a marksman, they might be thinking that they already get what they need to from the support after the first take down of bottom turret, and now, they can just roam around freely like Dora the explorer (mostly Vaynes and Ezreals).
We've seen many marksmen who wander alone a lot with no direction. It's okay to roam around after pushing the first turret in the dragon lane, but don't get too far as to go to the top lane. Your limit should be at least in midlane.
Why?
Because as a part of the Dragon Lane, it's you and your support's responsibility to defend the bottom lane turret. We've seen many duo laners who neglected the Dragon Lane and wandered around aimlessly after pushing the opposing team's turret only to find themselves losing the advantage after the enemy destroyed two of your team's.
Stick with your support, or at least keep an eye on the bottom lane turret. Keep shoving minion waves to avoid turret lost. Shove then roam, shove then roam. Don't roam without clearing the minion waves first, you'll find your turret being destroyed this way.
So basically, you can roam but only after shoving minion waves in your lane (this goes for all roles and lanes out there). Don't go too far as well so you can still defend your lane's turret. And if you'll roam, stick with your support because even after you got your items and can finally dish a lot of damage, you're finished when you are crowd controlled several times or chased by a pro Master Yi whom can wipe you out with a single Alpha Strike + 2 hits. Because remember, your damage might scale but your defenses can only go so far. This means you're still as squishy as the initial phase and needs to be careful to avoid being a fodder to the opposing team.
5. "Avoid focusing on enemy tankers!"
During team fights, we've seen decent amount of marksman players who target the tanker or the fighter first. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this behavior as these roles are the most accessible to hit at the initial phase of a team fight since they are in the front lines.
But! As the team fight drags on or your team cleared the way for you, learn to find your way to the back line and target squishy champions like enemy marksman and mage. Don't get too caught up attacking tankers just because you already started and they have low health.
Tankers have high defenses and HP so even if they have low health, it's still easier to take down squishy champions so don't ever hesitate switching targets when the opportunity arises. If you master this trick, you're on your way to graduate marksman 101.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Marksman are squishy yet powerful champions. Always mind your position, and avoid getting caught by crowed control abilities. Learn to hit the right targets and when to participate in a fight. While you're the team's sword, they are your shield. Learn to cooperate and coordinate your movements with them, and you'll surely find your way to victory.
"You don't win alone, that's just how it is."
