Identity V Review—A Dead-By-Deadlight-Esque Game to Get Your Fright on this Halloween Season

Translate
The spooky season is upon us—just 6 days away, in fact.
As excitement bursts forth from my heart, I simply cannot wait for that time of year to dip into the dark side, and you wouldn’t want me to get started on how many pumpkins my mates have carved up this year. 🤦🏻‍♀️
With All Hallows’ Eve creeping around the corner, I’m simply itching to get my hands on some good ol’ horrifying titles that will set the mood for the occasion. Without further ado, I drag my mates away from their pumpkin craze and have them huddle in a cave made of cushions and sheets (If you have never built a pillow fort before, you’re seriously missing out in life, take my words for it!).
Scratching off the painfully obvious Halloween staples, we finally came to an agreement—spend the remnants of the day with a horror mobile game, Identity V.
Partnered with Behaviour Digital, Netease’s Identity V paints itself in a Gothic art style and is a fascinating concoction of the creepy, button-eyed character designs of Coraline and the deadly game of cat and mouse in Dead by Daylight.
Just minutes after starting the game, I was instantly enticed by the game’s well-written narrative, where I stepped into the shoes of an amnesiac detective who received a mysterious letter, inviting him to investigate a dilapidated manor and search for a missing girl.
As you progress with the storyline, you will find the asymmetrical multiplayer aspect comes into play. What that means is that for each 4v1 match, you’ll be provided with the option to take on the persona of a hunter or survivor.
More often than not, I find myself fighting with my mates over the hunter role. I mean, who doesn’t love being at the top of the food chain? Nothing beats channelling your inner hunter to strike fear within the survivors and butcher them like paper.
Whenever I end up with the survivor role, I always tend to have an ill sense of foreboding and dread brew in the pit of my stomach. Brooding moodily in silence, I’d always be starting the game begrudgingly. Sure, the ghastly background music and audio may be excellent, but good lord, it doesn’t help the situation at all! 😫
With my heart in my mouth, I push on to cooperate with my 3 other mates to hide and outwit the hunter as we repair cipher machines (fast) to power up and unlock the exit gate. At the same time, it also lets you discover (and grit your teeth) where your folks’ allegiance lies in exchange for their survival.
While it may seem somewhat friendlier than Behaviour Interactive’s gory hit, I would still reckon that it’s not for the faint-hearted.
However, if you think you’re up for the challenge, step up and put yourself to the test in the world of Identity V here.
That said, if Identity V isn’t quite your cup of tea, follow my page and stay tuned for more reviews on other horror games in celebration of this spooky season.
