Review Update March 10th, 2020.
Hmm. I have to lower my stars for Dragon Raja here from 5 to 4, as I played more in weeks and got deeper into the game.
Beware. The daily quests are repetitive. Maybe because this game is dungeon based style, and not really open world. I and my bond partner do Dragon Hunting, Devil Awake, Special Guest, Good Times and that's it. That's how our morning routine. After that, we get off. There is no monster farming or exp or loot drop farming on world maps, so I don't feel like I have something to do that makes me, 'Alright, I have to do these things so I can get this item.' I don't feel I have any real goals in the game. Again, maybe because this is dungeon style, I don't feel I have something that makes me come back to do more in game. The boredness is here and it's real. Also maybe because I'm from SEA and play in Europe server so that to do guild activites I have to get up at 3 AM in the morning.
Conclusion is, this is great game IF you like repetitive things. Maybe I will try again once the SEA server is opened.
Alright. So, this is going to be an honest review, bear with me. I already played Dragon Raja from its Taiwan version, and also invited and participated for the global version close beta test. In TW version I already reached level 80+ and CBT I stopped at level 50+.
Graphic is awesome as you can see from the screenshots taken. The animation too also superb. For graphic, you can set from 1 to 5, and custom set. I'm using ASUS Zenfone with RAM/Storage 4/64. The default setting from the game allows me to use graphic 2 set. I cannot set it to 5 as my phone is not capable to do that. My max graphic is 4. But as usual, the most superb graphic you have, your phone will get heat quickly and drains battery so much, so I prefer performance than graphic. And to be honest when I set my graphic to 1, nothing much different unless the details on NPC faces and bit details of sceneries.
Story? Great. Well, it's about some people has dragon blood in their body and become experiment to be a living weapon. Nice premise, isn't it? And sometimes you will be asked a question with multiple answers. These answers will lead you to different personalitie that you can see on profile menu. For example, if you asked whether to fight some monsters or let them be, and you answered "Let's fight them!" then you will be given Hot Blooded personality.
The story is the main quest, of course. What about other quests? There are many side quests, don't worry. Also hidden mission. Don't avert your eyes away from NPCs in front of you, or the chatbox on your left bottom screen. Why? Because sometimes the NPCs talk about something and it will pop out as chat balloon on their head. If you miss it, you can still see the words on the chat box. Often those are from hidden mission, and these missions are not that easy to do. You could be asked to find some items, or some NPCs to solve the problem. And nope, you cannot use autopath-finding feature on a hidden mission like this. So, when the mission asks you to search a medicine in campus map, be prepared to search the NPC who holds that medicine around campus, blindly.
There are no life skills in this game, but there are side careers. Are you tired to do dungeons? You can be a chef, idol, or shopkeeper. Those three are the side career available in TW version. In CBT, only chef and idol available. I think the shopkeeper one will be in mid-game later. Being chef, you are allowed to use kitchen, learn recipes from book or TV, gathering the ingredients around map or just buy them from NPCs, and also sell your handmade dishes. Same goes to idol career with different place and different activities. You can sell merchandise from your idol work too. Who will buy and what for? There are buffs that can affect your fighting style. For example, if you are hungry you cannot dash and fly. So you need to eat. Dishes here give you fullness and also stat buff increase for 2 hours long. Same goes to idol merchandise. If you have unhappy buff, you need this merchandise for making you happy for more than 20 hours.
Fighting jobs! Almost forgot. There are 4 jobs: blade master, gunslinger, assasin, and soul dancer. Every job here has two kind of weapons. And unlike other games, so far every job is balance to each other. There is no too over powered skills so far I see, every job has their own uniqueness. Blade Master uses swords and blade, and the role is as warrior and tank. Gunslinger of course uses guns, and the role is DPS ranged. Assasin is unique here because they also act a bit as wizard, and can attack as melee or ranged. Soul Dancer, this is the job I played and you may not find this in other game. Using their own soul to attack, Soul Dancer's role is to do magic support. You can stop time, speed your own movement, change enemy into a weakling duck, also buff and heal your allies. You will need this job in your party to do dungeons. And there are two other jobs that will be available as mid-game content. They are robot rider and scythe. I don't know the official name yet. Those are the names I gave to them based on what I see in TW version.
This game emphasis a lot on its social features, which you can find a lot here. There is mentorship relationship, as long as both you and partner reach level above 35, you can be his teacher if your level is above him even just one. One mentor can handle five students. The points you get from this relationship can be exchanged to avatar, frames, or even decoration for your chat box, chat bubble and your social media. Yes, there is social media in Dragon Raja. Just like a Facebook or Twitter, you can fill your timeline by posting texts and photos here, to be seen by your friends and club members. Oh guild here is called club, with tons of events. The schedule is right there in club menu, with Day and Date. Get prepared to be busy with club activities. And then there is Bond relationship. You can be bonded with your friends, max 9 members, and get your own title. It's like your own friend circle, or you can even make a small family with your friends here. What about being a couple? Well, there is one feature for that, but I think this will be mid-game content because I saw this in TW version but not in global CBT. The name is soul companion. When you reach Link points (friendship) above 2800, you can ask your friend to be your soul companion and get customized title from that. These bond and couple relationships allow you to get their own points to be exchanged with unique avatars and other items.
What about the fighting? Alright. From monsters, you cannot find wild monsters roaming around on the maps. Yup, although this is open world and you do your own thing in your pace, apparently not for fighting the monsters. There is no monster, there is no monster drop loot. You can find them only when you do dungeons, and get rewards when finishing them. There many dungeons, and some of them are limited to be accessed. For example, dragon hunting only can be entered up to 5 times and if this all used, the dungeon will be closed. Also happens to Devil Awake, and the dungeon style like Crazy Adventure and such.
But, the dungeons are so many here you can maybe get confused what to do first. And more will be unlocked when you reach high levels. Although what's not I approve here is the leveling sometimes too fast. If you are diligent to do dungeons and all activities, you can reach the level cap within one week.
I can see this game is trying to get you be more social rather than just fighting alone. I do agree, since what makes us to be tied to a mmorpg is the community and people around you, so that you will not get bored fast.
Earlier I said that I use RAM 4 with 64 GB storage. Well, there some friends using RAM 3 GB and still works. What matters is the internal storage. Global CBT took 5,2+gb and TW version took 6,4+gb. If you use an emulator on PC, I recommend Nox player, not LDplayer. Well, a friend said this although I have not tested this yet on my own. So far they said that LDPlayer will result blank screen or freeze in the middle of the loading process.
What the hell!!?? had to buy a new phone just now and setting it up. what happened to the download link for the game???
LOL..Now the server response is "Server is in.preparation, try again later". Given the tragic nature of the translations, that "in prep"message might well mean one of the devs is preparing to wash her hair :) it either means.in maint, or down to rest the backbone for Thursday's release. Fine with me, I'm at a real exciting spot in WoDN
horrible tease :( I must have gotten luckier than I realized at first. I can no longer get in, and I sort of wish I hadn't gotten in at all now that I know what I'm missing :)
Updated the star score for the game, and why??? Because I managed to get in byotches!! lol. All I can say so far is OMFG, incredible, futuristic, extremely customizable, graphically stunning, FUN game! I spent well over an hour in character customization, and could easily have spent another hour. I've chosen an Assassin who is very complex to play (my favorite), and the controls are tight and responsive. The skill sets are super fun as well. So far the story is immersive, and ill only touch the fact that he translation blows goats. Devs, let's be serious here. your target for global release was the largest English speaking country on the planet, and you give us a translation so terrible, a 3rd grade student (8 years old) would be embarrassed by it. You dont seem to realize just how offensive it is trying to follow a story where the language in places is just nonsensical. that's all I'm going to say about it. The game kicks major league ASS, and I'm enjoying it immensely. ill update my review again as I get a better sense of how p2w affects progression. And now, I'm diving back in. I'm playing on my Galaxy S4 tablet which accommodates 60Fps and ultra high res graphics.
I'm totally in limbo here. I have the game installed, and, was very jazzed to see all was working well for me without using a ***. But, as my toon was ready to build, "Server is full, please try another"....well, I guess there's only one thing to say.....AARRRGGGHHHHH!!!! lol. once I get into the game, ill change my star rating.
P.S. for those of you whining to them to add another server? HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MINDS??? LOL. This is a CBT check for perhaps the most highly anticipated game of the year, they have much to test such as the robustness of their log in server, for glitches, for broken quests, etc. Stop being ridiculous. if you keep trying, you'll get in as someone logs out. And to the person who asked if they have to delete this and download on the 27th? Come on now. if course not. you have the current client. if they change it, the client we have will update. BE PATIENT Y'ALL!!
